Investments – regular review is key

Managing your investments – your ISAs, bonds, General Investment Accounts, Fixed Interest Accounts – is simply about achieving a better return for you than if you left the money in a bank account! The longer the term of your investment, the greater your likelihood of making a good return – though nothing is guaranteed. Regular review of your investment portfolio is key.

How we work

Many brokers will claim to offer ‘whole of market,’ but that may just mean that they offer every kind of product, but that they are all from the same institution. Independent means that we can offer every kind of product from every institution.

Benefits

  • A single point of contact at all times
  • Advice from as early in the process as you need
  • Access beyond us to over 25 experienced advisers for the more obscure questions
  • Access to every type of product from every lender – we are truly independent
  • By your side all the way
  • Annual reviews at the very least

Why choose us

Sometimes it seems that there are almost as many financial advisers as there are financial products. Why should you choose us. We think there are many reasons of course, but among the most important are the following:

  • We are truly independent and can access the whole of the market.
  • We are advisers, not salespeople.
  • We are transparent in our costs and fees.
  • Our extraordinarily high rate of returning customers shows that people enjoy dealing with us.

This last is perhaps the most important. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. If we did not give our customers great service, they simply would not return.

FAQs

Am I ready to invest?

Before you start, you should ideally have cleared high-interest debt – i.e. paid off credit cards and personal loans first – secondly, possess an emergency fund – 3 to 6 months of living expenses saved in an easy-access cash account – and a long-term horizon – be prepared to leave the money untouched for at least 5 years to ride out market fluctuations.

Where can I invest my money?

Stocks and Shares – buying an ownership stake in individual companies, Bonds – loaning money to a company or government in return for fixed interest payments, and Funds – pooling your money with other investors to buy a mix of assets (like shares or bonds). This helps spread your risk, so you aren’t relying on one company. And there are Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) – similar to funds, but they trade on the stock exchange like regular shares.

How can I invest tax-efficiently in the UK?

In the UK, using a tax wrapper like an ISA (Individual Savings Account) is the most common starting point. You can invest up to £20,000 per tax year, and any growth or dividends you earn inside the wrapper are completely free of UK income and capital gains tax. Once you have used your ISA annual allowance other options will be taken into consideration.

What are the risks?

All investments carry risk, and the value can go down as well as up, meaning you could get back less than you put in. The golden rule of investing is diversification, spreading your money across different assets and industries to soften the blow if one performs poorly.
